Ten minutes with the pen moving and no decision about what to make. Do not lift it and do not correct. There is no undo on this page, no erase, and no saving over a sheet, because correction is the thing the practice forbids. The page never says what the drawing looks like.
The ten minutes
10:00
Start the clock, put the pen down, and keep it moving.
No undo. No erase.
Kept sheets go in the archive below and are not shown back to you as a set, in order, or as anything to compare.
The archive
The honest limit, stated first. No evidence anyone dictated anything to Hilma af Klint, and excellent evidence she believed it and organized her life around it. The sharper problem is the rehabilitation: making her canonical required quietly demoting the seances to biography, and the documented case of an institution excluding her over mediumship is a 2012 exhibition, in a curator's own words. The twenty year withholding was an instruction she recorded from a spirit, later written into a will and marked on the notebooks in 1932, and it is told as prophecy while it functioned as an accident: the work sat unseen for decades past the deadline because nobody wanted it. Automatic drawing is a motor phenomenon of the same family as the pendulum and the talking board. Real, repeatable, and requiring no outside author, which is stranger than the thing it replaced.
