The record
The honest limit, stated first. There is no claim to strip here, which is what makes this the volume's control case. Every other practice in this hub has a promise attached to it by somebody who was not making anything, and this one has none: four people made the date itself the work, said it would not improve them, and left the most complete records in the book. Three of them wrote about what the rule cost, in their own words, and one of them declined to be photographed, declined interviews and published almost no statements at all, which is its own kind of record. So the honest limit is not about the practice. It is about admiring it: watching somebody keep a rule like this for decades is not the same as living inside it, and the difference is the part that does not photograph.
