Tasks
Two lines a day
Adler's two portable procedures: one thing done as if you were already the person who does it, and one task handed back to the person it belongs to. Dated, kept, and uncounted.
The honest limit, stated first. Teleology, the claim that behavior is explained by what it is for rather than what caused it, is close to unfalsifiable: success and failure both confirm it, which makes it a stance rather than a finding. The sentence people quote as the summary of Adler, that you are choosing your suffering, lands as an accusation on anyone whose suffering is structural, and the crisp formulation everybody knows comes from a Japanese dialogue published in 2013, not from Adler's own pages. Separating the tasks is genuinely useful between entangled adults and genuinely dangerous aimed at someone being told their trauma is a lifestyle choice. Acting as if comes from a philosopher's book about useful fictions published the year before Adler used it, and it is a good trick with no trial behind it. This page keeps two lines because two lines is what the record supports.
